Biography: Aftab Shivdasani, the well-known Indian actor, was born in the City of Dreams, Mumbai in Maharashtra, India. His father PremShivdisani is a Hindu while his mother PutliShivdasani is a Parsi.His elder sister’s nameis AfsanaShivdasani. He completed his education from St. Xaviers High School situated at LokmanyaTilakMarg, Mumbai and he did his graduation from the H.R College of Commerce, Mumbai.
During the time between1984 to 1992, Aftab happened to appear in several television commercials. When he was just 14 months old, he was selected to act as the Farex baby (which is a baby food brand name). His first Bollywood film as a child actor was ‘Mr. India’ (1987), directed by ShekharKapur. This was followed by ‘Chaalbaaz’, ‘Shahenshah’ and ‘Insaaniyat’.
Aftab continued playing small roles in numerous advertisements and when he was nineteen years old, he got the much needed ticket from Ram GopalVerma. Aftab was offered a lead role opposite actress UrmilaMatondkar in his film, ‘Mast’. The time when he got this role, he was still a student at the H.R College of Commerce. This film turned to be a major success and his performance in this film earned him lots of accolades and praises from the filming community at large.Next up, in the year 2001, Aftab made his appearance in the film, ‘Kasoor’, directed by Viktram Bhatt. Here he played the negative role of the character of ShekharSaxena, a renowned journalist, who kills his own wife. His portrayal of the above named character catapulted him to instant fame and success.
His penultimate release in 2001 was ‘Love KeLiyeBhi Kuch Karega’, directed by E. Niwas. In this multistarrer film, Aftab appeared in a supporting role alongwith Fardeen Khan, Saif Ali Khan, SonaliBendre and Twinkle Khanna. Despite his good performance in the film, the film itself failed to create much of an impact at the Box Office.
PyaarIshqAurMohabbat’, directed by Rajiv Rai was his last movie in 2001. Here, he played one of the lead roles of that of TajBharadway among the three lead roles. The other two lead roles were played by Sunil Shetty and ArjunRampal opposite Kirty Reddy.
In 2002, Aftab’s first two movies ‘Koi Mere Dil Se Pooche’ and ‘KyaYehiPyaarHai’ were not successful at the Box Office.RajkumarKohli’s supernatural thriller titled ‘JaaniDushman: EkAnokhiKahaani’, was Aftab’s third release of the year, which too was a flop. His fourth release of the year, ‘AwaraPaagalDeewana’, directed by Vikram Bhatt, was quite successful and it went on to become the seventh highest grosser film of that year. This was his only hit film of 2002. His last release that year was a film named ‘Pyaasa’, directed by A. Muthu.
Next year in 2003, Aftab did get some amount of success with Prawal Raman’s multi starrer Bollywood Anthology film, ‘DarnaManaHai’. His role of that of Purab, a college going student who had the abilty to stop and move different people, earned Aftab much needed critical acclaim. His next successful release was the Priyadarshan comedy titled ‘Hungama’ where he starred opposite AkshayeKhanna and the newcomer, Rimi Sen.Aftab’s final release that year was the Vikram Bhatt directed Hindi crime thriller, ‘Footpath’. Here he appeared alongside EmraanHasmi, BipashaBasu and Rahul Dev. This movie did not do well at the Box Office.
Aftab’s first two movies to be released in 2004 were ‘SunoSasurjee’and ‘Muskaan’, both of which flopped at the Box Office. Next up, he came up with his third release of 2004, a comedy film titled, ‘Masti’, directed by Indra Kumar and starring RiteshDeshmukh, VivekOberoi, Genelia D’Souza, Amrita Rao, AjayDevgan, Tara Sharma and Lara Dutta. This film was considered to be a semi-hit.AnupamSinha’s ‘Shukriya: Till Death Do Us Apart’ was Aftab’s last release of 2004, which again did not do well at the theatres.
In 2005, Aftab appeared in ‘Mr. Ya Miss’ and ‘Koi AapSa’, both of which flopped at the Box Office. All his films in the year 2006 were failures. However he did find a little bit of success in 2007 and 2008 with certain multi-starrer films.
In the year 2009, Aftab acted in ‘Aao Wish karein’, which was the first film to be produced under Rising Sun Entertainment, his production company. He helped co-write the movie’s script and he himself played the lead role of the character named Mickey.
In the year 2011, Aftab played the lead character in Bilal Hassan’s, ‘Bin BulaayeBaraati’, starring with Priyanka Kothari.
